I made my first purchase from the Wii Virtual Console.  Time to scratch the itch of a forgotten and dying if not dead genre.  The side scrolling shooter.   Oh the love.  Oh the pain.   This vid is not me playing.  But it's very well close to it.

Originally, I was lame and was using the stock cooler on for my Athlon 64 XS 4200+ CPU (socket 939).  While this actually held up surprisingly well for a stock cooler, my temperatures were nowhere near where I wanted them to be.

 

So last night, I finally broke down and got me a new toy.

I'm not super happy with that pic of it in my case, so here's another -

 

A Zalman CNPS7500, its already dropped my idle CPU temps by almost 10 C - and that's with crap thermal grease since I botched my order of Arctic Silver (got the adhesive instead of the grease because I am dumb).    Tonight, I'm going to test it out with a minor 3% cpu overclock to watch my temperature increases under heavy load.
